Our branded fuel retail network is the world’s largest, with around 45,000 service stations in more than 90 countries. Every day, we sell 350 million litres of fuel to around 10 million customers. The 2008 global customer tracker survey ranked Shell number one as the preferred brand of service station.

Our experience in fuel development over more than 100 years underpins our position today as a leading provider of innovative fuels. Differentiated fuels with special formulations designed to clean engines and improve performance are available in more than 60 countries under the Shell V-Power brand and our Fuel Economy formula for petrol and diesel is now available in 21 countries. Shell’s Fuel Save programme also provides driving techniques and car care tips to help drivers get the most out of the Shell fuel they buy.

Shell has close technical partnerships with Scuderia Ferrari, Audi Sport and Ducati Corse. In June 2008, a race version of Shell V-Power Diesel with GTL Fuel powered an Audi R10 TDI to victory for the third year running in the 24 Hours Le Mans race. Shell fuel has also helped Ferrari to achieve 150 victories on Formula One tracks including 10 World Constructors’ Championship titles. These relationships enable our scientists and engineers to develop advanced fuel processes and formulas and transfer what we learn on the racetrack to road fuels for the benefit of our customers.

Shell actively pursues opportunities in developing markets in Asia, while strengthening our presence in Europe and the USA. Our joint venture with Turcas, for example, has more than 1,200 branded Shell retail sites in Turkey. In Malaysia in 2007 we acquired 44 ProJET-branded retail service stations and rebranded them to Shell. In China’s Jiangsu province, our joint venture with Sinopec manages over 400 sites, of which half are dual-branded. Separately, we now operate over 160 fully Shell-branded sites in Tianjin, Beijing, Guangdong, Chengdu and Chongqing. We are the only international oil company to get a licence to set up a network of retail stations in India, and now have 45 there. Shell and OJSC Alliance group established a joint venture to operate a network of around 150 Shell-branded retail sites in Ukraine. In Russia, we have more than 60.

In 2007 we signed an agreement to rebrand 266 retail sites in Scandinavia. In 2008 we signed an agreement to operate at least 120 co-branded retail stations throughout Switzerland with Migrol AG.
